This 'n That

We will use this page to share about a variety of topics that are broadly about healing and which do not have a ready placement on other pages on our web. The information may serve as additional reference material. Contributions may be from "guest authors" from time to time. We suggest that you be sure to bookmark and frequently visit this page.

A future article will be about the healing qualities of nature and how we can incorporate this in our own gardens and homes.

But First...A word about the art work for this page...
It's the 2nd weekend in August and time for the Annual NW Reiki Gathering (NWRG) at Breitenbush Hot Springs. We are sold out and it's the first session...110 strong.  Our Registrar and Trustee, Catherine, decided to make this a year of being SURE that all who are new to the Gathering would feel quite welcomed.  So, she added a small duck decal to the name tags of all newcomers--that way we would know to be especially watchfull and helpful to all "newbies".  Did I mention that Catherine is a very talented and comedic story teller?  She had us all laughing with her description of all the new decals and ribbons for the year--INCLUDING leading us all in singing (with some nifty "moves")  "Rubber Duckie You're the One" ala Little Richard!   Well, the next year I was asked if I could do some art work to spruce up our song book...maybe a nice sumi-e painting of a bird in song on a bamboo branch or such.  I couldn't help it--sometimes things just "come through"!  So, before I knew it, this duck flew out of me onto the rice paper!  It had such energetic movement, I HAD to use it! And we did.

Little did we know that Rubber Duckie would have such long lasting impression with all of us.... At a later Gathering, a number of rubber duckie toys appeared (with the assistance of the Board of Trustees and with the intent that the children of the Breitenbush Community find and keep them following our event)--they were in the bath houses, hot springs pools, drinking fountains and such. We had a "fun-raiser" Auction that year...unannounced to all of the participants--the idea was that they would be creative in finding some things they had with them that they could "put up" for auction. All were encourged to be playful and creative.  It was wonderful...people offered week ends at family get-a-ways and various personal services. All were having great fun..and then...a somber moment.   "Rubber Duckie of the Lodge Drinking Fountain"  had been kidnapped!!!  There was a ransom note...we could all insure the safe return by raising the ransom!!  That little creative note garnered about $350 for the Scholarship Fund!

So, one simple act of kindness--assuring new comers were helped to feel welcomed--started a chain of events that ended in supporting more to attend such Gatherings in the future.
